Young People Lead the Way to Pope

5 July 2010

Young people from all over our diocese are leading the way when it comes to the papal visit.  In today’s (5 July) podcast our Youth Ministry Coordinator tells us about the excitement and planning that’s going on.

Listen to Dave Wheat’s podcast in the multimedia panel on the right.

Dave’s also been busy writing to our parish priests who have nominated young people to attend the special papal visit youth event on 16 September in London.   He’s also been in touch with all the young people who have been nominated to represent their parishes.

In his recent letter Dave writes: “This will be a wonderful occasion welcoming the Holy Father and a great celebration of being a young Catholic in the UK.

“There will be four evenings around the diocese to give young people attending the event background information about the Holy Father, why he is visiting the UK, and why it is so significant in the history of our country and diocese.

“These gatherings will be an opportunity for young people to meet and get to know each other before the day itself.”

The ‘pizza and Pope’ information evenings begin next week.  They are taking places in each of the four counties in our diocese:
Monday 12 July Alexander House, 160 Pennywell Road, Bristol BS5 0TX
Tuesday 13 July St Osmund’s, Exeter Street, Salisbury SP1 2SF
Monday 19 July The Immaculate Conception, Beeches Green, Stroud GL5 4AA
Tuesday 20 July St George’s, Billet Street, Taunton TA1 3NN
All meetings begin at 6.30 pm and end at 8.00 pm.  As well as getting all the information about the Holy Father’s historic visit, Dave’s arranged for some pizza for all involved.

Father Michael McAndrew is undertaking the important role of Clifton Diocese Papal Visit Coordinator.  Father Michael is ensuring the people making up the Catholic Church in the West of England have the latest news about the Holy Father’s historic visit.  Father Michael's most recent update was on cliftondiocese.com recently.  There's more on the papal visit from Monsignor Andrew Summersgill the Papal Visit Coordinator.  His most recent update is still online.

The official website thepapalvisit.org.uk is the best place to find out the most up-to-date information in the build up to the special time in the life of the Church in our countries.  It will also provide full coverage during the visit - a great place for you to follow the visit virtually if you are unable to be at any of the large public papal events.

You can also make your donation towards the visit at the official website.  It's simple, secure and direct.

Keep checking our 'Papal Visit' page for links to all our coverage as we all look forward to welcoming Pope Benedict XVI to the United Kingdom.
