Youth Ministry Coordinator Appointed

28 June 2010

Dave Wheat has been appointed as the new Youth Ministry Coordinator for our diocese.  He took up his position earlier this month.

Dave’s role is a key part of the important work being done by our Department of Adult Education and Evangelisation.

Father Christopher Whitehead the Director of our Department of Adult Education and Evangelisation said:  “This is an exciting time for our diocese and Dave comes fresh from working in the Archdiocese of Westminster with their young people.

“Dave is already busy working with young people, throughout the four countries of our diocese, as they prepare for their important role during the Holy Father’s historic visit.

“He will begin to contact our parishes once he has settled in and hopefully will be able to support the young people of our diocese as well as those who work with them.”

Dave can be contacted at the Department of Adult Education and Evangelisation based in our administrative offices at Alexander House in Bristol.  His number is 0117 902 5594.

Father Christopher added: “He would most certainly appreciate being invited to your deanery or parish to support you in whatever way he can.”

Already Dave has been part of the launch of our vision for future organisation of our parishes which took place last week.  The liturgy saw copies of ‘Parishes in Communion for Mission’ presented to people from throughout our diocese.  It incorporated an explanation of all that had been achieved following the promises made in our diocesan pastoral guidelines ‘Called to be a People of Hope’.  One of the commitments was that a coordinator for youth ministry be appointed.  That has been done and this was demonstrated to the congregation on that special night.

Dave also came to the recent Mass to celebrate the conclusion of the Year for Priests, after which he met Bishop Declan.  You can see pictures of Dave chatting with Bishop Declan in the image gallery on the right.

You can hear from Dave in our podcast which you can listen to in the multimedia panel on the right.  He’ll tell you what he’s been up to already, how to contact him, and what’s coming up for young local Catholics.

We’ll hear from Dave again soon on cliftondiocese.com.  As, Father Christopher told us, he’s working hard to help young Catholics in the West of England prepare for their important role during the papal visit.  Dave will let us know how that’s going in another podcast coming soon on cliftondiocese.com.

Our Department of Adult Education and Evangelisation is busy working with people throughout our diocese.  Find out more about how you can get involved in innovative forthcoming events taking a look at the packed recent newsletter. .

I am delighted to welcome the appointment of Dave Wheat as our new Diocesan Youth Officer. Young people are not only the Church of the future, they are also the Church of the present. I hope that Dave settles in quickly and that his ministry will be fruitful as he accepts the challenge of today's young people in our Diocese.

Dave Wheat's appointment as Youth Ministry Coordinator for the diocese is most welcome. The podcast and photographs provide a useful introduction for those of us who have not yet met him. We wish him well and assure him of our prayers.

I am delighted to hear that Dave Wheat has taken up this very important position. I hope that Dave will have all the support he needs fro parishes and deaneries to help us all become a Church young people will want to be part of, and a Church that young people will be empowered to shape. Our young people are bearers of our Hope into the world of young people in the 21st Century. Dave's is a huge task, but a privileged mission - I for one look forward to working with him with and for our young people of the multi-cultural inner city of Bristol. Our prayers are with you, Dave, and welcome to Clifton Diocese!

It is really good that Dave feels warmly welcome, because that it very much what he is, and he has big and exciting challenges ahead, working with young people, so crucial to the life of theChurch, on some great events, such as the Holy Father's visit and World Youth Day 2011, but also on other levels across the diocese, We all really wish him well and pray for his success.
