Gerard Owen,
cliftondiocese.com’s young papal visit reporter has met with
Dave Wheat our Youth Ministry Coordinator to learn more about how young people from the diocese will participate in the
papal visit.
On Saturday 18 September a group of young representatives from the Clifton Diocese will travel to London and with around 3,000 other young people from around the United Kingdom welcome Pope Benedict XVI on the piazza outside Westminster Cathedral. After Mass there, they will travel to Hyde Park for a Prayer Vigil. This is a wonderful opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ through the word of God and also to celebrate how Catholics serve their communities and countries today.
A great deal of work has already been done to prepare for this pilgrimage. Dave has held information evenings in Bristol, Salisbury, Stroud and Taunton to let those who are going to London know the plans. He said that amongst the young people there is a great sense of expectation and excitement about the event. There is also a hope that this is a starting block for youth ministry in Clifton Diocese and young people can really celebrate being part of the Catholic Church in the West of England.
Dave concluded by encouraging all the young people of the diocese to look out for opportunities to get involved as much as possible because they are valued and being listened to and prayed for. You can all keep in touch with developments as they unfold at the papal visit website thepapalvisit.org.uk and cliftondiocese.com. You can listen to our podcast in the multimedia panel on the right.
